Pooba Mahalingam

Programme Leader

Pooba Mahalingam is a professional engineer with over 20 years of work experience in construction, insurance and loss adjusting. He specialises mainly in construction, engineering, liability and property claims, and risk management work.
He was previously attached to an international claims management company and led its Construction, Power and Engineering (CPE) team. He was also assigned to Christchurch, New Zealand, as a member of the CAT loss team, handling the 2011 earthquake claims.
Pooba used to manage insurance claims for a large international insurer, with special responsibility for technical and reinsurance matters.
Before moving to Singapore, Pooba worked in an international loss adjusting firm in Kuala Lumpur, where he was responsible for mega projects, risk management and claims handling. This included large construction risks, namely KLIA, KLCC, KL Tower, LRT I & II, Sprint Highway, and Smart Tunnel. He also gained further regional engineering exposure, when he handled assignments in Brunei, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.
He is the current President of the Insurance Law Association of Singapore (ILAS), as well as an active training facilitator with the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA).
Pooba is a well-known presenter on construction risks / claims handling. He is also ACTA-qualified and uses various active learning methods to share some of his complicated insurance claims scenarios to benefit the participants.
